Statement
Situated within painting’s longstanding association with illusionism, Beth Pederson’s work has progressively pushed her medium’s limits of representation. Whether in collage paintings, portraits of isolated objects or in the recent cut-outs, Pederson has made everyday objects of industrial and domestic origins her focus.
Her production of uncannily real images allows for a reevaluation of the everyday objects that are portrayed, both in terms of their impact on our visual landscape and in terms of their value as functional objects without which our current standard of living would be impossible. |
